Arusha City sits on the foot of Mount Meru, the second tallest mountain in Tanzania, with a population of over 500,000 people (based on a projection from the 2012 census). Arusha is a very multicultural city with a majority of Tanzanian population made up of indigenous Africans from all over the country and a minority of Asian-Tanzanian, European, and Americas. Arusha city is the gateway to the most visited national parks and attractions in Tanzania and is regarded as the safari capital of the world due to its close location to these parks. The city has played an integral part in the history of Tanzania from colonial times up until recently as a diplomatic hub of East Africa.
